The four-day holiday around the Olympic opening ceremony on July 23rd and the three-day holiday around the Olympic closing ceremony on August 8th are expected to ease congestion in central Tokyo.
Q: Will the holidays be moved only in 2021?
A: The movement of the three holidays is a special case limited to 2021, when the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held.
Q: What will happen to the holidays before the move (days that were originally supposed to be holidays)?
A: In 2021, it will no longer be a public holiday. For example, according to the provisions of the "Act on National Holidays (Act No. 178 of 1948)," "Sports Day" is the second Monday of October, but October 11, 2021 will be a weekday.
